Response paper on Friedrich Nietzsche: Human, All Too Human


Nietzsche’s concept succeeds to understand the basic presupposition of human’s revenge, but it fails to understand the basic presupposition of society in Punishment. Nietzsche assumes that human has two presuppositions in revenge: without wishing to harm, and wishing harm. But he fails to understand the basic presupposition of society in punishment because he sees that revenge is same as punishment.
Nietzsche divides the basic presupposition of Revenge to be two kinds: without wishing to harm and wishing to harm. Without wishing to harm is called self-preservation which will be done by human solely as reflect of self defense. It means that every people will give similar action when they get harassment from the others without intension that they do it to harm. They just reply what you have done to them. Opposite of that, Wishing to harm is called restoration, the revenge strongly to reply your harassment. It based on the assumption that people need to restore their honor, their dignity in front of the other. People who get harassment from other people feel un-equal, no confident and weak, so that way they will do as same as they have got, harassment has to be replied by harassment. Nietzsche has succeeded to understand the basic presupposition of human’s revenge.
But when Nietzsche equal revenge as a punishment in society, he fails to understand that individuality and society is different. Based on John Locke’s concept, society is built by contract social. It means that everyone has to admit and follow the rule of society which was created and agreed by them such as norm and constitution. They will get punishment when they cut off those rules. The basic presupposition in society is co-understanding to follow their rules, no revenge in society. Punishment is an impact of our mistakes, nor revenge. Society never revenges themselves, because revenge solely happens as a reaction to the others, nor themselves.
. Nietzsche fails when he sees that Individuality and society is similar because they are totally different. His failure happens when his concept about revenge is equaled to punishment in society. No revenge such as self-preservation and restoration in ourselves moreover our society, it just an impact of our mistake such as cutting of the rules which we made as a contract among each people.

Kegagalan itu Menyedihkan

Orang bilang, “Kegagalan adalah kemenangan yang tertunda”. Itu benar. Akan tetapi, hari-hari ini aku lebih suka mengatakan, “Kegagalan itu benar-benar menyedihkan”. Ngaji  ba’da subuh tadi, aku memutuskan untuk memberi tahu mereka langsung. Bahwa mungkin dalam waktu yang tidak lama, aku tidak akan menjadi guru kelas mereka lagi. Aku akan mundur dari tugas mengajarku di pondok ini. Membiarkan mereka mendapat guru yang lebih cocok buat mereka. Guru yang bisa membuat mereka lebih mudah paham dalam mencerna pelajaran. Guru yang bisa menginspirasi mereka untuk selalu bersemangat menantang kerasnya masa depan. Kata mundur itu terucap, sejak akhir-akhir ini aku menyadari, para santri di kelasku nampak kepayahan dalam mengikuti pelajaran. Nampaknya mereka sulit sekali untuk mencerna dan memahami pelajaran yang aku ajar selama ini. Nampaknya, semangat dan gairah mereka untuk belajar, menghafal dan mengulangi pelajaran di kamar mereka masing-masing masih kurang tinggi. Indikasinya, ...

Ode untuk CRCS 2011

“Zam, alhamdulilah ditanda-tangani sama Pak Lono.. tinggal Bu Fatimah.. besok ke kampus yah, aku dah janjian sama Sam dan Maurisa di kampus besok… terima kasih bantuannya sobat… semoga tesis pean cepat di-acc. Amien.” (Message by Iwan Setiawan, received on September 17, 2013. 18:20:09) Sambil mengetik ini, aku membayangkan dewi kebahagiaan yang sedang ramah kepada sahabat, mentor sekalian salah guru kehidupanku, Bang Iwan Setiawan. Sore ini, beliau sukses mendapat tanda tangan penguji tesisnya, Pak Lono Simatupang, dan besok bersiap-siap menemui pembimbing lainnya. Aku yakin, sama  haqqul yaqin -nya dengan beliau, bahwa besok beliau mudah akan mendapat tanda tangan tersebut. Itu artinya, perjuangan berat untuk kuliah di Pascasarjana CRCS UGM selama dua tahun pun pelan namun pasti akan menemui titik akhirnya, wisuda.
