Between religion and identity

My first question about relationship among religion, state and also civil society rose when there are many debates how to find the harmony among them. This conclusion accuses that historically we realize that there is a tight relationship among religion, state and civil society. We never found the rising one country without relating it to religion or specifically religious society. The obvious example is the first embodiment of USA. It was clearly stated that USA is always under one understanding about the rule of God there through the “In God We Trust” clause in the Pledge of Allegiance. It may happen only when there is a tight relationship among state, religion and society. Historically speaking, there is no denying about the role of religion or religious society in the world.

Based on that conclusion, the conflict between religious society and state is more about the need of defending the identity. The study of migration wave in Europe and America has triggered many worries about the erosion of their identity, the American or European identity. Huntington pictured it clearly that religious diversity which came from Hispanic immigration eroded the Anglo-protestant culture.[1] as Well as Huntington, Fallacy also sees that Muslim immigration in Europe has threatened the identity of European.[2] Those conclusions lead the to the anxiety that religious communities always bring their agenda for changing the reality based on their understanding about the ideal reality.

Without excluding the problem within religion itself, we should worry that the big picture about conflict among religion, state and society has moved from its problem’s root. The issue has moved from identity to the secular and religious things, although we realize that there is no clear separation between religion and state’s role in reality. This is very annoying because we believe and realize that democracy and civil society always give the equality for every people and community that there is no exclusive treatment for some. The anxiety has already generated much discrimination in the society.

Response Paper to Identity and the Politics of Scholarship in the Academic Study of Religion: Introduction (Academic Study of Religion )

Identity and the politics of scholarship explain the correlation between science and study of religion according to identity’s perspective. This correlation arises among the scholars of religion by facing at least two conditions: the first is facing the universal value of scientific knowledge; the second is facing the problem within their identity itself. The first correlation is facing universal value of scientific knowledge. Scientific knowledge as an official truth is based on the value of enlightenment, Reason. Reason is the essence of human being as universal value which exists within human life. The universal claim then bore the claim truth which only can be reached by scientific knowledge. The scientific knowledge has critics because its methodology excludes other form or aspect within its object of research. The historicity of every object of research is one of the earliest perspectives which criticize the universal value of scientific knowledge claims such as ahistoric and...

Watak Pengecut

Saya sendiri cenderung memilih nomer 3. Cenderung skeptis memang, tapi apa mau ...
